Josh Hamilton Bobblehead – May 16/09

I’m on a roll finding other blogs that are announcing Josh Hamilton type things.  It would be nice if I could find them myself, but there are lots of people out there who do a lot of the leg work and keep things up to date for a wide variety of topics – and that makes it possible for me to cull the Hamilton specific items and post them here.

The most recent event – Waiver Sharks has gotten ahold of the Rangers 2009 Stadium Giveaway schedule, and found a Josh Hamilton bobblehead day on.  As you may have guessed from the title – its May 16, 2009 when the Rangers take on the Angels.  The first 20 000 fans get a Hamilton bobblehead.

Hamilton has a minor league bobblehead – it was issued when he played in Durham, and I run across it quite frequently in my eBay searches.  There are white and grey variations of that one.  No word on any variations with the Rangers version yet.  Waiver Sharks speculates on the possibility of a tattooed and un-tattooed version.  I’d hope they don’t go that far with it.  Hamilton may hate his tattoos, but they are a part of who he is.  Plus, most bobbleheads all look the same – at least the tattoos would make his stand out a bit.  My suggestion for a variation – the more common version should be a Rangers uni, and then the limited (say 10% of the run) version should be him in his Home Run Derby jersey.

In the middle of May, I will likely be scoping this out on eBay to add to my collection, depending on how it looks.  An untattooed version would lose major points with me.

Ironically, Josh Hamilton never played for Durham. The Bulls produced that bobblehead when he was in the lower minors, assuming that he’d reach Triple-A and play for them in the near future, but his drug problems got in the way of that. If he ever did play for the Bulls, it would have been HUGE here in NC. The Bulls might have sold out every single game!

    • Dave – I just assumed that Hamilton had played in Durham, but for all the times I checked out the back of his cards, it never clicked that it wasn’t one of his minor league stops. It would have been huge for him to get a chance to play so close to home.

WaiverSharks – thanks for the heads up on the Bobblehead story, and thanks for checking out my blog.

Thanks for the mention – We met Josh, last year when he came to Detroit – he was the only Texas Rangers player giving impromptu autographs. Rreally showed the kind of man this player is. Found your site to be refreshing and a nice read. Keep up the great work!

We’ll definitely be grabbing one of these Josh Hamilton bobbles off of eBay as well – second that on the tattoos! 🙂

I know that a Josh Hamilton bobblehead is in the works, and it looks awesome, complete with tattoos, and it looks exactly like him, in a swinging pose. Keep at eye out on it!

  4. […] are coming…. OK, so only one bobblehead is actually coming.  As I wrote in a previous post, the Texas Rangers are giving away Josh Hamilton bobblehead dolls prior to their game on May 16, […]
