The Rangers have fired the opening salvo in contract negotiations with Josh Hamilton.
The reaction? Probably not what they hoped: “My agent and I were disappointed with their offer” said Hamilton. “The negotiations have begun.”
There is no real time crunch for the Rangers here. Hamilton can’t become a free agent until 2012, and his salary for this season is $550 000. Currently, he is one of the best deals in baseball, but it is good for the team to engender some good will towards one of their marquee players.
